Course Information


The Certificate IV in Disability Support prepares individuals for a career as a disability support worker, providing them with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to effectively support people with disabilities in various community settings. The course covers person-centered practices, advocacy, support strategies, and occupational health and safety principles, empowering learners to assist individuals with disabilities in achieving independence, choice, and control over their lives.

Pre-Requisite


A prerequisite of a CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) needs to be completed as part of the pathway into CHC43121 Certificate IV in Disability Support.

Entry Requirements

This is an open entry program of study with participants needing to read, write and communicate in English to a level to perform the job.

  • Students will be required to complete a “Language, Literacy & Numeracy (LLN)” evaluation to determine suitability for the course.
  • Students must undertake a “Pre-Training Review” prior to determine suitable for the course.
  • Students must be over 18 years of age to conduct practical work placement.
  • Students are required to be able to access appropriate technology (including a computer). Students must have sufficient digital literacy. Further details will be discussed upon application.
  • Students must obtain a volunteer Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC) (commonly known as a police check) at their own expense. Please note, if there is a Disclosable Court Outcome on the record, we are unable to assist with placement, as industry partners require a clear record. In Victoria, this includes any offences by adults up to 10 years ago, and this requirement is non-negotiable.
  • Students must obtain a volunteer Working with Children Check at their own cost.
  • Students are required to obtain an NDIS Worker Screening Check at their own expense.
  • Students are required to provide All Health Training with evidence of current flu vaccination in order to participate in practical placements. Please note that COVID-19 vaccination is strongly recommended for healthcare workers, and some placement providers require evidence of 3 vaccinations.

Competency is assessed through a combination of practical application and demonstration of skills, research, analysis and completion of competency based workbooks.

 

Practical Experience and Assessment

Students get the opportunity to undertake practical skill development throughout the course in the All Health Training simulated environment with trainers who are experts in their field and maintain currency in the industry. Students are also assessed based on skill development throughout the course.

Homework & At Home Study

Students are required to complete assessments outside of class time, which depending on a student’s underpinning knowledge, may be approximately 6 – 10 hours per week. Assessments will require access to a computer for research on the internet, accessing Microsoft Teams (AHT will provide you with on course commencement).

Opportunity for Credit Transfers (CT) & Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)


If students have already successfully completed unit/s of competency which are included within the qualification AHT offers, credit may be granted.  
Competencies gained through other formal study or experience may be acknowledged through a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process.
