Unit Overview

This nationally recognised course is for all workers who may be required to provide CPR in a range of community and workplace settings and describes the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines, until the arrival of medical or other assistance.

The Workshop Covers the Following...

Recognise and assess an emergency situation

Ensure safety for self, bystanders and casualty

Assess the casualty and recognise the need for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)

Seek assistance from emergency services

Perform CPR in accordance with the ARC guidelines

Display respectful behaviour towards casualty

Operate an automated external defibrillator (AED) according to manufacturers' instructions

Accurately convey incident details to emergency services

Report details of incident in line with appropriate workplace or site procedures

Maintain privacy and confidentiality of information in line with statutory or organisational policies

Reviewing an incident

Entry Requirements

  • Whilst there are no pre-requisites for this course, please be aware that in order to make an accurate verbal report to the supervisor and the emergency response services as well as provide written incident reports, adequate language skills are required and assessed.

  • Participants will need to participate in physical tasks and will be required to kneel on the floor to allow assessment as stipulated by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC). Participants will need to wear appropriate attire to allow movement on the floor.

Completion

On successful completion of this course, participants will then receive a Statement of Attainment within 10 business days.
